Farmlands Guyana Inc (FGI) has acquired lands for the purposes of farming and improving the agriculture industry.

FGI’s operations are situated in Ebini, Region 10 and spans 25,000 acres, the area is accessible by both road and river.

FGI has announced that a whopping 500 acres will be used for the cultivation of corn and soyabean, with preparations underway, the company stated that planting will commence in November.

The company is locally owned and focuses on the production of agricultural products for consumption by the domestic market and for regional export.

In a statement issued by the FGI, the plan will be to double its current production until all the lands are utilised.

Inspired by the laudable national and regional drive to support food security and nutrition, FGI intends to use its current 25,000 operation to concentrate its efforts at the origin of the food value chain. Its market focus starts with the opportunity offered by the more than 15 million people living within the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) who spend more than USD 5 billion on food.

The company has noted that the demand in the Guyana market is growing and FGI’s first target market will be the internal market. Once this is satisfied, FGI intends to satisfy the regional market.

The company has received significant support from the Government of Guyana and wishes to congratulate the Government on leading this regional initiative.

FGI anticipates it would be a prominent participant in the transformation of the country’s agricultural sector.
