Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred this morning at approximately 05:50hrs at La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara.

Reports indicate that hire car HD 3435 owned and driven by 35-year-old Timothy Waldron of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown was proceeding north along the western side of the road at a fast rate, attempting to overtake a motorcar when pedestrian 52-year-old Vidya Tie of Samaroo Scheme, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, suddenly ran across the said road from the eastern side to the  western side.

As a result, the car collided with her and she was flung onto the bonnet and hit windscreen, then fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries about her body.

She was picked up in an unconscious state by the police and the driver and escorted to West Demerara Regional  Hospital where she was  pronounced dead on arrival.  The body was transported to Ezekiel Funeral Home for storage and PME.

The driver was arrested, a breathalyzer test was conducted on him and no trace of alcohol was detected. Further investigations are in progress.
