DEAD: 21 Year old Mervin Squires

Mervin Squires a 21 year old mason was killed on Sunday morning after he was stabbed twice, after a gambling   game of cards went sour and one party refused to pay up five hundred dollars.

Molika Fernandes, the mother of the dead man; spoke with BIG Smith Crime Watch at her lot 52 First Field Kaneville, East Bank Demerara.

She said that she was not at home when the incident took place but began receive calls sometimes after 11:00hrs.

“I received a call saying something happen and that my son got stabbed up and he is not breathing and they said to hurry at the hospital, when I got there my son was dead” the mother related.

The woman who was fully composed during our interview said that she was in church when her son was being murdered. Ironically according to her, the pastor was speaking to the congregation about the need to monitor their children and the activities they are involved in.

It is reported that earlier on Sunday the two were among other gambling  when an argument arose over money and Mervin ripped off the chain from the suspect’s neck after the suspect refused to pay up the money he lost.

An argument and subsequent fight ensued and Mervin was stabbed and had to be rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital as he reportedly received injuries as a result of the fight.
