On Wednesday, 22-year-old Jonathan Layne of 605 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 when he appeared before the court, charged with cruelty to an animal.

The charge was laid on Saturday after the man was arrested by the police following several viral videos of him beating a dog with a wood, cuffing and hanging the animal up with a rope tied to its neck.

During his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, Layne pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

Layne was charged with Cruelty to Animals; under Section 177 (1) of the summary jurisdiction Offence Act Chapter 8:02.

His matter comes up for trial on March 15, 2023.

Video of the man abusing the animal can be seen here: https://fb.watch/j8T2YP54YR/

We were informed that the dog has since been taken in care by the GSPCA and is also expected to be examined by a vet.
