(WCVB) KEENE, N.H. — At least one person has died after a small plane crashed into a multifamily building on Friday evening in Keene, New Hampshire.

The plane crashed at approximately 6:55 p.m. into a building on Lower Main Street, about 3,000 feet from the northern end of the runway at Keene Dilant-Hopkins Airport. FAA officials said the NTSB would investigate, but preliminarily reported the aircraft involved was a single-engine Beechcraft Sierra.

“There were no injuries at the multifamily building. Unfortunately, those on the plane have perished,” City of Keene officials said.

Residents say the plane hit a storage area, which caught fire next to a small apartment building that shares a parking lot with Hope Chapel. They said all the residents got out safely.

“It was very scary, I mean, I was sitting in the chair and I heard the big bang and then the house shaking,” said Robin Guimond.

“I just grabbed what I needed to grab to be decent, got outside and looked up. The roof was already in. It already spread all over the roof of the back of the house,” said Scott Gauthier.

Photos and videos showed heavy flames after the crash. By the time Sky5 arrived overhead, the fire was out but firefighters were still using ladders and lights to inspect the damage.

A video showed firefighters extinguishing flames in the damaged building.
