Young people in Victoria Village sign up for leadership training

Several persons from the village of Victoria, East Coast Demerara commenced training to become Community Leaders. The young people commenced the first of their Capacity Building training today, Saturday.
The training is being facilitated by the Ministry of House and Water through its Community Development Council Department.

With this initiative, the individuals who are being trained will become point persons who will liaise with government agencies and departments on behalf of the village and residents of the community.
In addressing the trainees, Housing Minister Susan Rodrigues said that the ministry is responding to a request from the community to work with them in training their young people in leadership.
During the training, leadership, management, community awareness, conflict resolution, security awareness, land allocation and acquisition will be among the areas of the training focus said Minister Rodrigues.

She cautioned the young people to be reminded that in managing people, communities and addressing conflicts, those seeking to address the concerns ought to understand that they need to first be familiar with the areas and channels to which those in distress can be refereed to and that decision should not be made based on emotions.
Following the training, various ministries and agencies will then work along with these young leaders in the village to facilitate community development and programs as they will be able to relate adequately, what the needs of the community are.

Before the meeting this morning, Minister Rodrigues did a brief walk in the community and promised to return to conduct a full fledge community meeting soon.
