Forty-year-old Clarence Farley who Police said confessed to murdering his wife was on Monday charged.  Farley, a mechanic of  Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was arrested last Thursday at a hotel in Berbice.

On Monday morning, he appeared before Senior Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between May 23, 2022, and May 27, 2022, he murdered his wife Omega Ault, a 39-year-old Home Economics teacher.

He was remanded to prison until June 27, 2022, for report.

According to reports, Police in Regional Division #3 found the teacher’s body in a state of decomposition at her Crane, WCD home at around 17:00 hrs on May 27.

This was after her brother, Kevin Ault, a mechanic of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) went to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station, and reported that he had been calling his sister via telephone and was not getting through to her.

The brother then went to his sister’s address at Crane and after calling and getting no response, he pushed open the front door to the house where she lived and immediately got an unpleasant scent.

He then went to the front bedroom of the house and saw the body of his sister lying motionless almost in a state of decomposition.

The man then reported the matter to the police at Vreed-en-Hoop after which a party of Police ranks visited the scene. Shortly after, a wanted bulletin was issued for Farley.

However, at around 19:50 hours, last Thursday, acting on information, Police ranks went to Malinmar Hotel at No. 78 Village, Corriverton, Berbice where they found Farley in a room.

He was told of the allegation, cautioned, arrested, and then escorted to Springlands Police Station. It was reported that while in Police custody, Farley confessed to killing the woman.

Farley and his now-dead wife have a three-year-old son together.
