Samuel Hinds Junior

The police on Thursday morning arrested and detained Samuel Hinds Junior (Son of former President and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds) after he reportedly pulled a gun and pointed it at a party of uniform police traffic ranks who were conducting an operation on Main Street Georgetown early Thursday morning.

According to information reaching the BIG Smith Crime Watch, the ranks had pulled over the gentleman to have a Breathalyzer Test conducted on him when he began to resist the police.

We were told that at approximately 02:00, three police ranks who were conducting a Driving Under Influence (DUI) exercise, pulled over motorcar PNN 4446 where they asked the driver to step out of the vehicle.

They subsequently requested of the man that he submit himself to a breathalyzer test but he reportedly refused and as efforts were being made to have him detained and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, he reportedly whipped out a firearm and pointed it at the ranks.

At that point, the ranks immediately called for backup and that backup came from the Brickdam Police Station. We were told that the main patrol of ‘A’ Division titled “Impact Alpha” responded as they were the closest to the scene.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station where his firearm was confiscated and lodged. He was also found to be under the influence according to police sources.

Contacted this morning, Former Primer Samuel Hinds told Big Smith Crime Watch “I have no knowledge of the matter”

At 08:30 this morning also, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan when contacted said that he had not yet received the Commissioner’s report for the morning.

Efforts to make contact with Commissioner of Police Leslie James on the matter were futile as were our efforts to contact Divisional Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Marlon Chapman.

In 2015, a Magistrate was dismissed days before handing down a sentence to Hinds who was found guilty of a wounding charge.
