The International Federation for Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) is set to kick off its Central America and Caribbean (CAC) championships on August 12, and Guyana’s Emmerson Campbell is well suited and prepared for it.

The event, which will be held in El Salvador, is the highest regional bodybuilding event, attracting the best physiques from Central America and the Caribbean.

In a brief interview with this publication, Campbell said that he is going to compete not just for himself and the achievements he can obtain, but as a strong representative of his country. “I want to continue to win and do myself and my country proud since Guyana has plans to make a bid to host the event in 2023,” he said. He explained that with this being his fifth time representing his country, he plans to give it his all to ensure that Guyana and its bodybuilding fraternity is well displayed at this event. “…although it is just me up there on stage, whenever I am overseas donning the national colours, I am not just doing it for me, I am repping the ‘592’,” Campbell explained.

The 34-year-old reminisced on his start in bodybuilding in 2015, where he transitioned from track and field activities to caring for and naturally building his body.

Campbell will be surrounded by an elite team of 7 persons who will also be competing at these championship games.

When asked what he is looking to achieve at this particular outing in El Salvador, the four-time Senior National Men’s Physique Champion said that he is looking for nothing less than gold. “At these championships, I have won silver… [and] bronze…it is time for me to complete the set with the elusive gold.

The Central America and Caribbean Championship is the pinnacle of the area championships where the best of the best amateurs compete in several categories like Bikini, Men’s Physique, Classic Physique, Figure, Wellness and Bodybuilding for a chance to win a Pro Card. The athletes who win the coveted Pro Card at the annual event, get a chance to sign lucrative endorsement deals with supplement and apparel companies. The event is a conduit for greater achievements and even a livelihood or a career in fitness.

The high class event will be held from August 12 to August 16.
