Motorcyclist charged with causing death of 73-year-old Tutor granted $250k bail

The motorcyclist who is accused of causing the death of a 73-year-old Tutor on February 6, 2021 was on Monday released on $250,000 bail.

Shaquelle Williams appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where pleaded not guilty to the charge. It is alleged that on the day, at the Rupert Craig Highway, Georgetown, he rode motorcycle CJ 2794 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Shri- Chandra Persaud also known as ‘ Max’ of 109 ‘B’ Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

Persaud was a Tutor attached to School of the Nations.

Williams was instructed to make his next court appearance on June 17, 2021.

According to reports, on the day in question, Williams was proceeding west along the highway in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy when he collided with the pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road.

As a result of the collision, both the rider and Persaud were picked up unconscious and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where the elderly man died while receiving treatment.
