US Embassy reacts to robbery outside its Georgetown office

The United States Embassy in Georgetown is warning US citizens to take security precautions following a robbery on the Monday just outside the United States Embassy in Duke and young Streets.

 

The US Embassy in its security notification posted on its website  said that the robbery occurred at 7:14, “an Embassy visitor was robbed of their personal belongings at the intersection of Duke and Young Street, while attempting to park in a visitor parking spot directly across from the embassy.

 

The assailants were traveling on motorbikes and did not present any weapons, but used physical force to grab personal items from inside the victim’s vehicle,” the security notice reads.

 

The notice which encouraged persons to report all crimes to the police also reminded U.S. citizens to “exercise caution due to crime in Guyana.”

The notice which was posted by Member of Parliament Christopher Jones

Parliament Christopher Jones on his social media, the US Embassy is quoted as reminding American citizens that “Georgetown is rated critical for crime.” However, those words do not appear on the notice on the US Embassy’s website.

 

The US Embassy’s notice is listed numerous security measures persons can take.
