65-Y-O Woman Killed in Freak Accident at Alness, Corentyne

Police in Berbice are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at around 09:45 hours along the Alness Public Road, Corentyne.

The incident involved motor lorry #GAJ 4955, driven by 35-year-old Divindranauth Seeram of Corentyne, and pedestrian Donna Punch, a 65-year-old pensioner of Lot 40 Alness Village, who tragically lost her life.

According to police reports, two pedestrians had emerged from a street on the northern side of the road and were standing at the roadside when the lorry, traveling west along the southern drive lane, experienced a mechanical failure. Both of the vehicle’s right-side rear wheels became dislodged, one of which struck Punch as she stood on the northern corner of the road.

The elderly woman fell onto the parapet, sustaining severe injuries to her head and body. She was quickly assisted by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her body has since been taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the lorry is currently in police custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.
