513g of cannabis found at New Amsterdam Prison

An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis at the New Amsterdam Prison on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The suspected narcotics were found by a prison officer who was acting on information received. The officer discovered leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be cannabis and immediately notified the police.
According to a statement from the Police, ,ranks responded to the location, collected the suspected cannabis, and escorted it to the Central Police Station.
The substance was later weighed and amounted to 513 grams before being lodged as evidence pending further investigations.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
