2 Year old drowns after Canoe flips in river

Police sleuths have arrested a forty eight year old on suspicion of rape. This is after the man’s eight year old niece made the allegation that he raped her while she was left in his care by her mother.

According to our sources in Berbice, the incident took place in a village along the Corentyne Coast on Sunday sometime around 19:30 hours.

The account given to the police indicates that child mother asked the unemployed uncle to keep the young girl as she, the mother left the home and went out.

The man then reportedly took the child into a room at the and allegedly carried out the act of rape on her. When the child’s mother returned home she told her mom what transpired and the mother subsequently informed the police who visited the home and took the man into custody.

The police have since taken the young child for a medical examination and the investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In matters of rape, the police are mandated to also inform the Child Care and Protection Agency.
