Hair dresser and social media personality Lisa Ramnarine was yesterday sentenced to 32 months in prison and ordered to pay a substantial fine after being found guilty of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Ramnarine appeared before Magistrate Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

She was found her guilty of the offence concerning the possession of 540 grams of cocaine.

Following the guilty verdict, the Magistrate handed down a sentence of thirty-two (32) months imprisonment.

In addition to the jail term, Ramnarine was fined GYD$810,000 (approximately US$3,887 based on the current exchange rate).

The charge was brought by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU).

Ramnarine of Hague, West Coast Demerara was reportedly caught trying to smuggle cocaine inside a religious item via the DHL courier service in 2022.

The narcotics amounted to 540 grams (about one pound) of cocaine.

According to reports, Ramnarine was arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) following the discovery of cocaine in a parcel at DHL which contained a Hindu Havan Kund and other religious items.

Officers examined the items and discovered a hidden compartment within the Kund, which contained the cocaine. The sender’s information retrieved from the package led to the arrest of Ramnarine.
