Earlier today, Officers of the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) executed a targeted operation at a residence of Block 1 Unity Hubu Parika.

The operation involved a thorough search of the premises, leading to the discovery of numerous sizable bags containing multiple brick like parcels suspected to be cannabis.

Subsequently, two individuals present during the search were apprehended.

The arrested individuals were identified as Latchman Shankar, alias Jack, aged 39, residing at the mentioned address, and Sanya Ramrattan, called Sheena, aged 36, from Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara.

Both suspects were escorted to CANU headquarters, accompanied by a substance believed to be narcotics.

Upon testing, the substance confirmed its identity as cannabis, totaling 102 parcels and weighing 55.2 kilograms.

The estimated street value of this seizure amounts to approximately 20 million Guyana dollars. Investigations into this matter are currently underway.
