“Uncle Blacks” missing after MV Barima sinks

Raymond Somra, also known as “Uncle Blacks,” is among the crew members who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while on a voyage from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His cousin, John Angel, told BIG Smith News Watch that Somra is originally from Eastington, New Amsterdam.
Somra’s daughter, Nay Somra has launched an urgent appeal for information on her father’s whereabouts following the vessel’s capsizing.
She said her father, who was serving as a crew member aboard the MV Barima, remains missing, and the family is pleading with anyone who may have information about his location or condition to come forward.
