The University of Guyana Basketball team, popularly referred to as the Trojans have intensified their preparation as their title defense approaches at the annual Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Tertiary League.

This was the message from Coach Warren, who informed The BIG Smith News Watch that a lot has changed since the school’s triumph at last year’s YBG Tertiary League.

Owing to these changes, the team has up the ante in preparing their title defense. UG narrowly defeated GTI 69-66 to walk away with the championship in its inaugural stage.

Coach Warren lamented that, going into this year’s tournament will present some new challenges for the defending champions. The team, according to the coach, has lost quite a few key players to the oil and gas sector. Requiring them to work offshore, has rendered those players unavailable, which means that the coach has had to shift roles to new and existing players.

He also made mention of the shift to outdoors due to the unavailability of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, to which he has claimed luckily, the players have adapted well.

The University’s side will suit up with the sole intention of successfully defending their title. Coach Warren also made mentioned the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, who is always ready at a moment’s notice to aid in boosting the team’s preparatory efforts.

Last tournament’s MVP and UGSS President, Mr. Gill has also been passionately working to ensure the university’s basketball program realizes its vision.
