Murder Suspect: 27-year-old Wayne Castello called ‘Topcat’

Police detectives on Thursday evening shot and injured a man who they have been looking for in connection with the murder of Navindra Samaroo who was shot dead on Middle Road LaPenitence on his way back to work back in July.

Samaroo was an agent for a phone card company and was involved in the sale and distribution of phone cards and collecting large sums of money on the company’s behalf.

According to a release from the police at approximately 20:05hrs on Thursday ranks received information that 27-year-old Wayne Castello called ‘Topcat’ of 333 East Ruimveldt was at a location in the said village.

In addition to the alleged murder of Samaroo, ‘Topcat’ was also wanted by the police in relation to a number of robberies the police report noted.

When the ranks showed up at Genip Lane, East Ruimveldt as per their intelligence, Castello was seen at the side of the road but immediately attempted to get into a motorcycle.

The ranks stopped and exited their vehicle and at that point according to the police, it is alleged that Wayne Castello pulled a gun from his crotch and discharged rounds at the cops who returned fire hitting him in the left foot.

He was then arrested and a search of his person revealed a 9mm pistol with six live matching rounds and a magazine. He was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
