The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has completed its investigation into a viral social media video involving Roopeshwar Mangal, popularly known as “TikTok Uncle.”

The video, which circulated on TikTok, contained remarks the Commission found to be racially derogatory and ethnically divisive, and not in keeping with the principles of harmony, respect and national unity.

According to the ERC, Mangal has acknowledged that the comments were made while he was under the influence of alcohol, which affected his judgment.

He has since stated that the views expressed do not reflect his character or beliefs and has issued an apology to individuals who may have been offended or distressed by the remarks.

The Commission has welcomed his acceptance of responsibility and noted his public apology.

The ERC reiterated its commitment to promoting harmony and mutual respect among all communities in Guyana, urging citizens to exercise responsibility in their public communications, both online and offline.
