Three Charged with Illegal Firearm and Ammo Possession

October 28 2024 – Three men were brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday, where they faced charges related to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Acting Chief Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty presided over the case.
The accused are Randolph Norton, 29, and 28-year-old Jamal Hazel, both of ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown; and Negus Lamaizon, 27, of D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown.
They were charged with possessing a .40 calibre pistol on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, without the required firearm licence.
In addition to the firearm charge, they were also accused of unlawfully possessing 13 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition and 41 rounds of 9mm ammunition on the same day.
All three pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Mc Gusty granted bail to Norton and Hazel, setting it at $200,000 for each charge. However, Lamaizon was denied bail and remanded to prison pending further proceedings.
Bail was refused due to him being charged previously with similar offences.
At about 23:30hrs on October 23, 2024, police ranks on patrol received information and proceeded to D’Urban Street between Mandela Avenue and John Street, where a silver grey Toyota Allion bearing registration number PAF 6829 was stopped with three occupants.
The driver of the vehicle gave his name as Negus Lamaizon. In the front passenger seat was Randolph Norton and in the right side back passenger seat was Jamal Hazel.
A search on the three males unearthed nothing illegal and a search was then conducted in the car. Behind the deck of the car, a silver and black Smith and Wesson .40 pistol with serial number FZD7331 along with a magazine containing 13 rounds of .40 ammunition.
One black Glock19 pistol with serial number BZFY299 with a magazine containing 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one white box containing 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition were also found.
The men were asked if they were holders of firearm licenses, and they said no and subsequently denied knowledge of the firearms and ammunition. They were told of the offences committed, cautioned, and escorted to the East La Penitence Police Station.
The firearms, ammunition, and motorcar were transported to the station, where they were marked, sealed, and later sent to the Ballistics Section for analysis. Lamaizon stated that the vehicle belongs to his mother, who is currently in the United States of America (USA).
