Team manager declares CARIFTA a resounding success

April 10 2026
Niall Stanton, at the helm of this year’s CARIFTA Team, commented to Big Smith News Watch on the squad’s performance over the Easter weekend in Grenada.
“I believe CARIFTA 2026 was a success. Our young men and women stepped up, putting forth their utmost effort on the track. Although we had several fourth-place finishes and missed out on medals, the overall success of the team was impressive,” Stanton remarked.
Stanton also expressed optimism about the future of athletics in Guyana, while acknowledging the invaluable role of the coaches.
“We have the potential to advance from here. I think it’s crucial for the youth to stay dedicated. We also need to recognize the coaches for their hard work with these athletes, as well as the government’s support since last year,” he noted.
This year, Guyana collected six medals at the CARIFTA Games, four of which were gold.
