Awaiting sentencing is a 30-year-old man who confessed to the killing of a resident of Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, during a home invasion.

Originally charged with the murder of 53-year-old Darrell Breedy, Terrence Pitt, also known as “Shots” and “Sonna Boy” from Sophia, Greater Georgetown, chose to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Appearing before Demerara High Court Judge Jo Ann Barlow earlier this month, Pitt admitted to the killing that occurred on October 5, 2019.

Dead: Darrell Breedy

During a robbery at Breedy’s residence, Pitt shot and killed him after breaking in with an accomplice, stealing $11,000 and a television.

Breedy resisted the armed intruders until he was fatally shot. The deceased was a well-known tout
at the Georgetown Magistrates' Courts and also worked in construction.

Pitt is scheduled to appear in court again on May 7, 2024, for sentencing.

Previously, in February 2020, Pitt received a 12-month prison term for escaping custody from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Eve Leary, Georgetown.

He had been detained there between November 11 and 12, 2019, in connection with Breedy’s murder.

Pitt managed to pick the lock of his handcuffs using a makeshift tool from a broom and fled. He was
apprehended again on January 9, 2020, near Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.
