April 8, 2025 – The Guyana Police Force confirmed that 32-year-old Keon Fogenay, also known as ‘Dan’, was shot and killed during the Wismar unrest today.

Fogenay, a Wismar resident, was reportedly struck during escalating confrontations when riot police discharged rounds at protesters who were burning tires and vandalizing government infrastructure.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Colin Primus was also injured during the clashes, though the extent of his injuries remains unclear.

According to a police statement, officers engaged with the crowd after being met with missiles thrown by protesters. The rounds discharged by police ultimately resulted in Fogenay’s death.

In response to the incident, the police ranks involved have been placed under arrest, and the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has initiated an investigation.

Additionally, police vehicles were reported to have been vandalized and damaged during the chaos.

To ensure transparency, members of the Regional Security System (RSS) will lead an independent investigation into the events.

The situation in Wismar is still tense as protests actions continue over the police shooting of 21-year-old Ronaldo Peters.

Authorities are working to restore order and ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
