The Christ Church Secondary School was on Thursday destroyed by fire under circumstances which are yet to he determined.

A fire alert was first announced at around 17:00hrs today Thursday. The firefighters have been able to contain the blaze and are in the process of conducting the mopping up exercise.

The fire destroyed two major sections of the school including the main building of the school which is located at at the junction of Camp and Middle Streets in Georgetown.

Just last week, a fire scare at the building was a cause for concern.

Streets around the fire scene were closed as fire fighters continue their work under the supervision of Chief Fire Officer Gregory Wickham and support from Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken and his ranks who kept the spectating crowd at bay.

Several Government Ministers including Education Minister Priya Manickchand were on the scene.

The fiery destruction of yet another school has been described as sad by the Ministry of Education.

More details will come as this story develops.
