No-confidence motion in Chronicle’s EIC was engineered by outsider

No-confidence motion in Chronicle EIC was engineers by outsider

STILL THE BOSS: Mr. Tajeram Mohabir- Editor-in-Chief of the Guyana Chronicle Newspaper

The No-Confidence Motion which was brought against the Editor-In-Chief of the Guyana Chronicle Newspaper Tajeram Mohabir back in May of this year, fell apart after evidence surfaced that a female Editor-in-Chief of an external online media house was behind the failed motion.

In details that are now emerging and substantiated by multiple creditable sources, the motion was engineered by the ‘external Editor-in-Chief’ who used her closeness with two existing editors inside the Guyana Chronicle Newsroom to hatch the plan and get employees from the Editor Department to sign the document.

In fact, as the matter was being addressed, it was revealed that at least one employee stated clearly that he never placed his signature on the document which was signed seeking Editor-in-Chief Tajeram Mohabir removed from his position at the state-owned newspaper.

Back in May, the no-confidence motion document was dated May 9, 2022, and addressed to President Irfaan Ali.

The letter to the president suggested that employees of the Editorial Department were frustrated, some resigned, and others were planning to resign because of the alleged management style of Tajeram Mohabir who they asked the president to remove as the Editor-in-Chief.

Employees in the Editorial Department were reportedly told that a senior government official wanted Mohabir removed but that would only be done if a no-confidence motion is brought against him.

BIG Smith News Watch was told that the employees signed the document out of fear that they would be upsetting the senior official should they refuse to sign the document.

Contacted for a comment, Mohabir would only confirm that the no-confidence motion failed as a high-level team found that there was no merit in the claims and grounds being put forward to advance or cause his removal.

In the meantime, the no-confidence motion seems dead, the internal architects remain on the job and the mother of the no-confidence motion sits miles away from all the drama.
