UPDATE: Soldier dies after being shot by colleague with AK47

Police sources have confirmed that the soldier who was shot this morning by his colleague at the Guyana Defence Force Base Camp Stephenson has died.
The rank whose name has not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Diamond Hospital.
This publication first reported that on Monday morning, a rank who was issued with an AK47 on Sunday evening to work duties, discharged rounds in the direction of his colleague hitting him about the body including his abdomen.
When the weapon was issued on Sunday evening, it was done so with 30 rounds of ammunition, when it was checked on Monday morning after the incident, it was found that only 27 rounds could be accounted for.
On Monday morning, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Brigadier Omar Khan said the army considers the incident as an unfortunate, serious but isolated one. He has confirmed that the police have commenced their investigations into the matter.
