In a successful intelligence-led operation conducted by ranks from the Guyana Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters (CID H/Q) and the Narcotics branch, a significant cache of high-powered firearms, ammunition, and narcotics was discovered in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

According to a police report, the operation, which took place between 18:00hrs and 21:30hrs yesterday, marks a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat illegal arms and drug trafficking in the area.

The operation, led by a Cadet Officer, focused on an alleyway located at Park Place, South Ruimveldt, bordered by a playfield and three houses.

During the search, police discovered a pink suitcase hidden under zinc sheets in a clump of bushes. Inside the suitcase, the following items were found:

  • One black AR rifle
  • One black and blue AR rifle
  • One Ruger 9mm pistol with one magazine
  • One Taurus 9mm pistol with one magazine
  • One BSA telescopic sight
  • Three ATN Viper telescopic sights
  • One Bushnell range finder
  • 319 rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • 106 rounds of .380 ammunition
  • 156 rounds of 12 gauge cartridges
  • 925 rounds of .223 ammunition
  • 20 rounds of .270WIN ammunition
  • 33 rounds of .68 ammunition
  • 76 rounds of .45 ammunition
  • 117 rounds of .44 ammunition

Further searches in the same alleyway led to the discovery of a large black plastic bag containing a quantity of suspected cannabis, which weighed 3.20 lbs.

All seized firearms, ammunition, and narcotics were photographed and lodged for ballistics testing.

Investigators are currently pursuing two individuals in connection with the discovery. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding the cache and those responsible for its possession.
