Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, met with a visiting delegation from the United Kingdom to discuss the continuation and initiation of key environmental programmes in Guyana.

The UK currently supports two major global initiatives: the Forest Governance, Climate and Markets Programme (FGMC2), which promotes the legal and sustainable use of forest resources to benefit poor, forest-dependent communities, and the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UKPACT Phase II), which aids partner countries in transitioning to low-carbon economies.

Both programmes are set to continue their work in Guyana in 2024, with FGMC2 ongoing and UKPACT set to begin. The delegation’s visit aims to ensure effective coordination and collaboration with national stakeholders, international partners, and between the two programmes.

British High Commissioner Jane Miller, Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) Edward Goberdhan, and other senior representatives from the High Commission and GFC were also present at the meeting, which took place at the Guyana Forestry Commission’s headquarters.
