Minister of Local Government and Chairman of the Region 4 Men on Mission Committee Nigel Dharamlall and Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner Khali Pareshram, visited the Vryheid’s Lust for a community meeting yesterday.

They were accompanied by Major Dwayne Carter, as they spoke with residents at the Vryheid’s Lust Community Center Ground.

The crowd was briefed by the Minister on the government’s plans for the community and a number of issues were raised which included; regularization and difficulties in the granting of transports, the need for better drainage and irrigation, the need for better road maintenance, cleaning of the burial ground, the establishment of a community library and IT Hub, the need for Scholarships for youths and youth development among others.

The Minister in addressing the residents assured them that he will work with other Ministers, to ensure that concerns are effectively addressed and pledged to have residents within the community given contracts for the cleaning and maintenance of roads and drains.

He cited the need for approximately 30 residents to be given part time employment through a government initiative for these projects, and to have the community’s ongoing Center Ground’s development completed in a timely manner.

Minister Dharamall announced that in the coming week, Engineers from his Ministry will be visiting to assess the roads and drainage situation.
Upon voicing their issues, farmers of the community were assured that their concerns will be addressed by the Agriculture Ministry.

The Residents expressed their satisfaction at the work done so far within the community and encouraged the Minister to return in the future.
