Mahaica resident found dead in trench on Republic Day

Mahaica resident found dead in trench on Republic Day

THIRTY- Eight-Year-old Dextroy Barker of Lot 24 Second Street Jonestown, Mahaica was on Sunday morning found dead in a trench at Belmont Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. The discovery was made at approximately 08:45hrs.

BIG Smith News Watch has been informed that man was last seen alive on Saturday evening around 21:00hrs and it is believed that sometime between that time and the time his body was discovered, he may have suffered a seizure.

Police detectives who were called to the scene were told by relatives that the man usually suffered seizures and that the condition started some three years ago.

This publication was told that Barker was earlier seen playing dominions on Saturday at a shop with others. He then left with his bicycle for his home but according to his relatives, he never reached home and his mother went to the Mahaica Police Station where she made a missing person’s report.

It was on Sunday morning that a construction worker from the community saw the bloated remains of a body in the trench and raised an alarm.

The body at the time was clad in a white T-Shirt and blue jeans according to police sources as also sported what appeared to be two gold rings on his fingers as well as two thousand Guyana dollars which were retrieved from the pocket of the deceased.

The police have since taken several statements in relation to the matter.
