DEAD: Jerome Andrews

By Royan Abrams

An East Bank Berbice young man, 22-year-old Jerome Andrews died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Sunday after a swimming outing with friends turned tragic.

BIG Smith News Watch was told on Sunday morning, Andrews of 162 Edinburg, East Bank Berbice went swimming with his friends in the said community at a popular joint called ‘six bridge’ where young people from the community would usually go for recreational swimming.

It was communicated to that while there, the young man made a plunge and never resurfaced. After some time it was discovered that the young man was not resurfacing and his friends immediately began a search for him.

He was first located by his feet and pulled from the water in an unresponsive manner and efforts to resuscitate him by way of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation did not entirely help.

Andrews was then rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital and immediately transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He died while receiving medical attention just after lunch.

Niketa Henry; a sister of the now dead man spoke with this publication on Sunday.

“They search and found his foot and pull him out and take him on the dam tried to resuscitate him by doing CPR and it didn’t work and they took him to the hospital and then he was transferred to Georgetown but he couldn’t breathe off his own and he had a brain damage and a heart attack and he died this afternoon” she related.

The police were called in and an investigation into the circumstances has been launched in the development.
