Linden Gold Miner Murdere at Puruni Backdam

September 12 2025
Police in Region Seven are investigating the alleged murder of 38-year-old gold miner Mark Benn of Blueberry Hill, Linden, who was killed late Thursday night at Big Mara Mara Backdam, Puruni River.
Benn was reportedly chopped to death around 23:00 hrs on September 11, 2025. The suspect, 41-year-old excavator operator Dexter Agrian of Bartica, has since been arrested.
According to investigators, Benn had earlier visited a shop owned by 28-year-old dredge owner Floyd Paul, where he was seen drinking and socialising with two Venezuelan women, including 35-year-old Fabiana Garcia. Agrian later joined the group, purchasing Guinness beers for himself, Benn, and the women.
Police said the group drank, played music, and danced until around 23:00 hrs when Benn asked Garcia for sexual intercourse. She reportedly refused, telling him he was too drunk. Benn then disconnected Garcia’s cellphone, which had been playing music, prompting Agrian to intervene.
An exchange followed, during which Benn allegedly warned Agrian not to “hug him like that.” Moments later, Agrian, who was armed with a 13-inch knife, allegedly dealt Benn a chop to the back of his head, causing him to collapse. He then reportedly struck Benn again to the neck, almost severing it, before walking away to his camp.
Paul later alerted police. When contacted, Agrian was cautioned about the allegation. He allegedly responded: “Sir, I drink couple well Guinness and I can’t remember exactly what happened.”
Police recovered the suspected murder weapon, described as a double-edged 13-inch knife. Agrian remains in custody as investigations continue.
