Lima Sands Farmer Charged with Murder

July 3 2025
Saif Majid, a 23-year-old farmer from Lot 491 Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, has been formally charged with the murder of 46-year-old labourer Gary Melville, also known as ‘Tonna’.
Majid appeared on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court before Her Worship Tamieka Clarke. The charge was read to him, and he was not required to plead.
He was subsequently remanded to prison until the next hearing, which is scheduled for July 29, 2025.
The charge stems from an incident that reportedly occurred between 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, and 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in the Lima Sands area.
Investigations revealed that Majid and Melville, who were known to be friends, had reportedly been involved in an altercation prior to the discovery of Melville’s lifeless body.
Majid was arrested on June 28 following police investigations into the incident. The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.
