Guyana, Dominican Republic deepen partnership with new MoU

The Governments of Guyana and the Dominican Republic are continuing to strengthen bilateral ties as discussions advance on strategic investments and cooperation in the energy sector.

The partnership, which was formalized through a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), focuses on collaboration in several key areas including energy, oil refining, agriculture, tourism, and petrochemicals. Since the signing of the agreement, both countries have steadily expanded cooperation with support from private sector stakeholders on both sides.

In a further step toward deepening that relationship, the Government of the Dominican Republic, through Refinería Dominicana de Petróleo S.A., has continued engagements aimed at exploring strategic investment opportunities within Guyana’s rapidly growing oil and gas industry.

Among the matters currently under discussion is investment interest linked to the Berbice Block, which was previously held by On Energy, along with broader talks surrounding regional energy security and future collaborative ventures.

The discussions form part of the Government of Guyana’s wider vision to strengthen both national and regional energy security while positioning the country as a major energy partner within the Caribbean.

Both Presidents also welcomed the increasing level of private sector collaboration between the two nations, particularly in agriculture, energy, and petrochemicals, where companies are exploring partnerships and joint ventures.

The Governments of Guyana and the Dominican Republic expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved under the 2023 agreements and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing initiatives that will strengthen economic relations and create opportunities for citizens of both countries.
