GEA boss agrees police had nothing criminal to SBF’s boss on

Head of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA), Dr. Mahender Sharma, has reportedly admitted “the Police investigations into SBF International Inc. did not result in the institution of criminal charges”

In a center page article seen, GEA said it’s decision to cancel SBF International’s Inc. was based solely on the company’s CONDUCT and was in no way influenced by the Directors’ race.

It was referenced, as a basis for qualifying his position of no discrimination, by pointing to the fact that Mr. Anand Sanasie, a person of East Indian ancestry was a shareholder, Director and leading light in the operations of SBF Petroleum Inc.”

But SBF’s Fuel Import and Wholesale Licence was cancelled two weeks after Sanasie parted ways with the company and had threatened a hostile takeover claiming to have been working on behalf of some persons.

The Company has challenged the legality of that cancellation with the GEA making a promise to act in accordance with the Court’s decision and urged that Mr. Bess and his company do the same.

Bess however explained that Dr. Sharma appears to have arrogated to himself the role, of investigator, judge and now prosecutor in the absence of evidence as, confirmed by the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

To this end, the fuel dealer reminded that President Irfaan Ali, on September 22, 2021 joined with leaders from around the world to adopt, and committed to implementing in Guyana, ‘The Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.’

The DDPA is a comprehensive, action-oriented document that proposed concrete measures to combat among other things, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.

Head of SBF Internationals Inc. is of the view that ethnicity does have a part to play in what his company has been going through and that it all seems to be emanating from within the GEA.
