Fish Vendors Remanded for Murder of Sophia Man

December 4 2024 – Two fish vendors were remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of 28-year-old Devon Williams, a labourer from Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

The accused, Keyron Lewis, 28, also known as “Donkey,” and Joshua Persaud, 23, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday.

The charge alleged that between November 22 and November 26, 2024, the defendants murdered Williams, who was found dead at his Lot 806 C Field Sophia home on November 26.

The men were not required to enter a plea as the charge is indictable.

During the hearing, Lewis was represented by an attorney, while Persaud appeared without legal counsel. Both were remanded to prison until their next court appearance on January 8, 2025.

Investigators revealed that Williams lived with his 52-year-old mother.

On November 22, 2024, she received word that her son was injured and lying beneath the Special Constabulary Outpost stairs at Stabroek Market.

Upon arrival, she found Williams with a head wound. He reportedly told her that an individual known as ‘Stitchie’  had attacked him with a cutlass, accusing him of theft.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) transported Williams to the Georgetown Public Hospital
Corporation (GPHC), where he received treatment before being discharged.

On the morning of November 26, 2024, Williams was discovered unresponsive in his bed by his
mother. He was pronounced dead after being transported back to the GPHC.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Williams died from hemorrhagic shock caused by multiple incised wounds and blunt trauma to his head and chest. Investigators believe he was stabbed and chopped by the defendants, who reportedly accused him of stealing a $90,000 mobile phone.
