Dust pollution, discomfort, displacement and uncertainty were among the features this morning at the East Ruimveldt Secondary School in Georgetown.

Teachers and students were placed into an alleged unfinished building to work. The floor of the building is untitled and causes dust to raise whenever persons walk.

The building which is located to the northern end of the school’s compound is said to have been constructed to cater for the grades 7 and 8 pupils.

BIG Smith News Watch was told that teachers communicated to those in authority that the specific section of the school was not ready to accommodate persons and had asked for a two-weeks grace period to allow contractors to complete their construction work.

It was communicated to BIG Smith News Watch that the Deputy Head Teacher of the school lost her voice this morning while operating in the dust polluted building.

Several parents had also taken the decision to take their children back home.

When this publication visited the school, the head teacher did not offer any official comment but said representatives from the Ministry of Education were on the ground looking into the matter.

Up to 11:30 hrs today, there had been no decision on if the children who were to occupy that building would be asked to turn out to school at a later date.
