The drunk driver who knocked a policeman off a motorcycle and then ran him over without stopping was on Monday morning granted bail in the sum of $60,000.

Abdool Safraz Nazir appeared before magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court where he was slapped with three charges.

Failing to stop after an accident, Failing to render assistance and driving under the influence were the charges read to the man on Monday and to which he pleaded not guilty to.

Meanwhile, his victim, Police Seargent Major remains in a critical condition in the Georgetown Public Hospital.

On Tuesday evening, July 13, the policeman was on duty patrolling with his force issued motorcycle when he was struck down.

Abdool then ran him over with the pickup he was driving and when he reached two villages away, he collided with another vehicle, causing the occupants of that vehicle to be rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The driver will return to court on August 16, 2021.
