Decomposed body of woman found at Victoria Koker

April 15 2025
The partially decomposed body of an unidentified woman was discovered on Tuesday afternoon in a canal at Victoria Koker, East Coast Demerara.
According to police reports, the discovery was made at around 17:00hrs after a caller alerted authorities to the presence of a body floating in the area. The location, a two-door koker situated south of the seawall, is currently not in operation and lies near a pump station where security personnel are stationed.
The body, believed to be that of a woman of mixed ancestry, was found face down in the water. She was clad in a pair of grey short pants and no top. The remains were located on the southern side of the first koker door, in a section of the canal between the structure and nearby vegetation.
Examination of the body revealed a tattoo resembling a heart on the right thigh, along with marks consistent with fish bites on the left shoulder. The advanced state of decomposition suggests the body may have been in the water for some time.
The remains were later removed from the canal and transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where the woman was officially pronounced dead. She has since been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where she awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Efforts to gather information in the surrounding area have so far yielded no leads, and no surveillance cameras were observed in the immediate vicinity.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain unclear.
