Contractors engaged in development projects in East and West Stewartville, New Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, have received a call to expedite their contracts, with numerous Guyanese eagerly anticipating the start of home construction.

Yesterday, Minister of Housing and Water, the Collin Croal, along with Permanent Secretary Mr. Bishram Kuppen, met with the fourteen contractors overseeing works in the nineteen lots allocated for development.

During the meeting, each contractor or their representative provided a status update on their respective lots and highlighted the challenges they are facing.

A common issue raised was the prolonged wait for construction materials, with major suppliers experiencing shortages despite favorable weather conditions.

Minister Croal urged the contractors to prioritize their commitments, emphasizing the importance of meeting deadlines.

He cautioned that liquidated damages could be enforced if contractors fail to fulfill their obligations. Additionally, the Minister appealed to allottees for patience, assuring them that efforts are underway to ensure timely access to their lands.

“The Ministry is actively collaborating with contractors, with our engineers and Clerk of Works monitoring sites daily to ensure completion,” stated Minister Croal, emphasizing the government’s commitment to delivering value for investments made.

As development progresses in the New Stewartville Housing Scheme, stakeholders are working tirelessly to overcome challenges and fulfill the housing needs of Guyanese citizens.
