Commissioner of Police agrees to meet PPP/C

Commissioner of Police Leslie James
Commissioner of Police Leslie James has made a decision to meet with key figures of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic.
Last week the PPP requested an ‘urgent meeting’ with the top cop to discuss a number of matters ‘security matters’ following his report which was sent to the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission on persons who might have been out of the country during the March 02 Elections and may have been marked off as voted.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, coming days after the final box of ballots were counted Sunday evening which shows that the Peoples Progressive Party Civic achieved more votes than the A Partnership for National Unity/ Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) Coalition Government.
It is expected that during the meeting between the two sides, issues including but not limited to the list sent to the GECOM Chair, public order, securing government assets, and documents over the next few days will be on the agenda.
The Commissioner of Police team according to sources within the Force administration is expected to be made up on The Top Cop, Deputy Commissioners Hoppie, Williams, and Graham along with the Crime Chief Michael Kingston.
General Secretary of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic Bharrat Jagdeo, Presidential and Prime Ministerial Candidates Irfaan Ali and Mark Phillips along with former Attorney General Anil Nandlall are expected to be among the team from the PPP side.
The incumbent APNU+AFC coalition which has received fewer votes from the recount has made it clear that Gecom cannot use the recount to produce creditable results from the March 02, 2020 polls. The Coalition has been arguing over the last two days that it has the highest number of votes produced from the ballot boxes which had zero amount of discrepancies during the recount.
After the numbers from the total recount which was confirmed by at least one of the smaller contesting parties in the election, the PPP supporters have been in celebratory mode while the APNU has been arguing that the process is not yet complete.
It should be noted that the recount process was broken up into four stages, recounting of the ballot boxes, the observation report by the Chief Elections Officer, the deliberating of the CEO’s report by the full commission, and finally the declarations of the results.
