Campbelltown clinched Region 8 Police U-15 Youth Football Championship

TACKLING: The young players battling for the win

The Campbelltown Police Youth Group on Sunday walked away smiling with bragging rights as champions of the Region 8 Inaugural Police U-15 Five-a-Side Football Championship. The win came after beating Karisparu in a close penalty shootout of 1-0 since neither of the teams scored prior to the close of play.

The nail-biting finals saw both teams being called to the field with Karisparu being the favorites having won against Campbelltown 2-1 earlier in the competition. It was during the final kick that Campbelltown claimed 1-0 in the penalty shootout, emerging victorious in the Final.

The community support for the event was not lacking

Earlier in the competition (which was held in the Region's Administrative Oval) to advance to the final, Campbelltown claimed a 1-0 victory over Micobie putting them in 3rd place.

The winning team was presented with a trophy and second place was also rewarded for their performance. A monetary incentive was also given to the most valuable player (MVP) Jessy Adams who clinched the title for his team after scoring a goal during the last penalty kick.

The event was coordinated by the Region 8 Police Administration and in attendance were the Community Relations Officer and Subordinate Officer-in-Charge of Regional Police Divisional Headquarters 8, Sergeant Asif Hakim along with Community Relations Representative, Lance Corporal Khemwantie Persaud.

Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken has been pushing the Guyana Police Force has been advancing the Social Crime Prevention Initiatives of the force through police divisional participation in an effort to achieve better collaboration between the police and communities.

The games in Region 8 reflect the embracing of Social Crime Prevention programs by the commander and his team in that region.
