A 33-year-old Bartica resident, Lorenzo Singh, was on Monday fined a total of $595,000 after pleading guilty to several traffic-related offences, including driving under the influence.

Singh appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with driving a motor vehicle while his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, in violation of Section 39A(1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, Amended Act 17 of 2022. He pleaded guilty and was fined $400,000 or, in default, three months’ imprisonment.

He was also charged with Breach of Insurance, contrary to Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicle Insurance (Third Party Risk) Act, Chapter 51:03, and fined $25,000.

Additionally, Singh faced two more charges — Obscured ID Mark on Motor Vehicle, for which he was fined $130,000, and Unlicensed Driver, which carried a $40,000 fine.

In total, Singh was ordered to pay $595,000 in fines.
