A Bartica resident has been fined $200,000 or, in default, six months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge.

Mark Augustin, 45, of Four Miles, Potaro Road, Bartica, appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The charge stemmed from his recent arrest by police for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

After the charge was read, Augustin entered a guilty plea.

The court subsequently imposed the fine, warning that failure to pay would result in a six-month custodial sentence.
