ASP Travis Cush admitted to the Bar

September 30 2026
After 16 years of service in the Guyana Police Force, Assistant Superintendent Travis Ansel Cush has officially entered the legal profession, adding Attorney-at-Law to a career marked by public service, academic achievement and professional advancement.
Cush was formally admitted to practise as an Attorney-at-Law in Guyana on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, during proceedings before Chief Justice Navindra Singh, where he took the requisite Oath of Office.
His petition for admission was presented by Attorneys-at-Law Selwyn Pieters, Geeta Chandan-Edmond and Dellon Fraser.
Cush joined the Guyana Police Force as a Constable on May 17, 2010, and advanced through the ranks to become an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He currently serves as Administrative Officer of the Tactical Services Unit at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
His academic journey includes a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Public Management and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Guyana. He also completed the Certificate in Advocacy and Evidence for Summary Court Prosecutors.
Cush continued his legal training at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas, where he successfully completed the programme leading to the award of the Legal Education Certificate on September 4, 2026.
During his time at the law school, he participated in the Margaret Forte Inter-Law Schools Mock Trial Competition in Trinidad and Tobago, representing the institution and earning recognition for his advocacy skills.
His performance was further recognised at the 2026 Presentation of Graduates Ceremony, where he received the Council of Legal Education Prize for Most Outstanding Student in the Legal Aid Clinic and the Callenders & Co. Save the Bays Environmental Law Clinic Prize for outstanding performance and contribution to the Environmental Law Clinic.
Reflecting on his admission to the Bar, Cush described the achievement as the culmination of years of sacrifice and perseverance, while emphasising the responsibility that comes with becoming an Attorney-at-Law.
“Becoming an Attorney-at-Law represents far more to me than the attainment of a professional qualification; it is the culmination of years of sacrifice, discipline, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to personal and professional development.
I regard admission to the Bar not merely as an achievement, but as the assumption of a solemn responsibility. The title ‘Attorney-at-Law’ carries with it a duty to uphold the rule of law, to preserve the integrity and dignity of the legal profession, to advocate fearlessly but responsibly, and, above all, to ensure that the law remains an instrument through which justice may be pursued and the rights of others protected.
My journey has taught me that one’s beginnings do not determine one’s destination. Every challenge, sacrifice and demanding moment along the way has contributed to the significance of this occasion. I therefore receive this privilege with profound gratitude and humility, conscious that much has been entrusted to me and that much will now be expected of me.
As I embark upon this new chapter, my commitment is to serve with integrity, professionalism, courage and distinction. I hope that my journey may also serve as an encouragement to others that, with discipline, faith, perseverance and a steadfast commitment to purpose, even the most ambitious aspirations can be realised.
For me, therefore, becoming an Attorney-at-Law is not the end of a journey; it is the beginning of a greater responsibility to serve, to contribute, and to make the privilege of this calling count.”
Cush is also a third-generation member of the police profession. His grandfather served as a Quartermaster Superintendent, while his late father, Selwyn Cush, was a police officer and later served as a peacekeeper in Namibia.
His professional milestone was supported by his mother, wife and five children, who shared in the sacrifices associated with his academic and professional pursuits.
With his admission to the Bar, Cush becomes the fourth Attorney-at-Law currently serving in the Guyana Police Force, combining years of law enforcement experience with formal legal training.
The admission ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravindradat Budhram, senior and junior police officers, the Director of Public Prosecutions, members of the legal fraternity, family members and friends.
The Guyana Police Force congratulated Cush on his admission to the Bar and wished him continued distinction as he takes on the responsibilities of his new professional calling.
