Police in Region Six have arrested two men following the discovery of nearly 25 pounds of suspected cannabis during an early morning patrol in East Canje, Berbice.

The seizure was made around 00:26 hrs on Thursday, February 12, 2026, during a routine patrol in the vicinity of Cumberland Koker. Officers reported observing two men behaving suspiciously near a boat that was docked in the area.

A search of the vessel, conducted in the presence of the suspects, led to the discovery of eight bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic. The packages contained leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The suspects — a 33-year-old construction worker of Cumberland, East Canje Berbice, and a 34-year-old labourer of Gatetroy, Berbice River — were arrested and escorted to the Reliance Police Station.

The suspected narcotics were weighed in the presence of the men and amounted to 24.9 pounds before being lodged as evidence. The boat involved was also transported to the Central Police Station and secured for further investigation.

Both men remain in police custody as police continue their probe into the incident.
