The National Covid-19 Taskforce has formally written to the managers, proprietors and operators of The Guyana Motor Racing Club, Altitude Cocktail Bar and Grill and Kairos Sports Bar and Lounge informing them that they are to close the doors to their establishment for one month.

The instructions were given on the basis that all three establishments breached the Covid-19 measures by hosting events which also breached the national curfew stipulation.

In the case of the GMRSC, their operations were suspended for the hosting of a (Ricardo Fagundes) funeral which the taskforce deemed a super spreader at which hundreds has gathered.

“This was evident in numerous photographs and videos which flooded social media. This blatant disregard for the Covid-19 measures reflects your contempt for the laws of Guyana” the taskforce noted in its letter which set the suspension date from April 30 to May 30, 2021.

The Altitude Cocktail Bar and Grill received a sanction for a month also and thir sanction will run from April 9 to May 9, 2021.

In the letter received by Altitude the taskforce noted that the establishment promoted an entertainment event which allowed for social gathering and which represents a breach of the COVID-19 measures on April 03, 2021.

Like the missive to the GMRSC, Altitude was accused of a disregard for laws.

“This establishment was warned on several occasions and proprietors previously sanctioned.

Kairos Sports Bar and Longue 163 Charlotte Street will have its operations suspended from April 9 to May 09, 2021.

The establishment was accused of breaching several sections of the Covid-19 measures when they promoted an entertainment event and also breached the national curfew.

In the latter ONLY to Kairos and Altitude, they were told that permission for their reopening must come through the Guyana Tourism authority.

The letters were signed by Colonel Nazurl Hussain Director of the Covid-19 Taskforce.
