Head of the Guyana Rice Development Board Nizam Hassan has been releived of his duties with immediate effect.

Hassan, a contracted worker, received his letter on Wednesday signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry.

The letter which was seen by this publication was titled ‘Determination of Contract of Employment’.

The letter did not give any reasons for the dismissal except to say it was being done in accordance with clause 9-a of the contract which was signed between Hassan and the GRDB.

Hassan once headed the Guyana Marketing Corporation before moving over to the GRDB several years ago.

In 2016 he along with several other officials from the GRDB were hauled before the courts for alleged fraud.

The matter against many of the who were charged including Hassan were dismissed as the evidence to support the charges was lacking.

Today efforts to contact the Minister of Agriculture and his Permanent Secretary were futile.
