Brazilian authorities have arrested 27 illegal immigrants between Friday night and Saturday morning at Bom Fim in Brazil. These persons would have entered Brazil from Guyana.

Of those arrested, 26 were Haitian Nationals and 1 Cuban says the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit, CANU.

Brazilian Federal Police have arrested the taxi drivers who were said to be waiting to transport these persons onwards. Some of the Haitians arrived in Lethem during this past week the Unit said.

They were initially denied entry into Brazil, but it was suspected that they used other routes to cross into the country.

This recent action is the fruit of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Brazil’s Federal Police  and CANU through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to share information and conduct joint operations involving narcotics and other criminal activities .
